Drop the Neo-liberal Higher Education Bills
Campus Front of India demanded in Delhi Protest
Last month during the parliament session Mr. Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for HRD has announced to setup a new panel for Higher Education by as ‘National Commission for Higher Education and Reservation Bill, 2010’. Definitely it is a neo-liberal assault on the Indian Education System.
In this regard, Campus Front of India has launched a Nationwide Campaign from 2010 March 10 – 25, to expose neo-liberal agendas behind these educational reforms.
Later, the education faced an another assault as “The Foreign Educational Institution (Regulation of Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010” which was approved by Union Cabinet presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 15 March 2010.
Against these reforms, campaign is going in with Handbill distribution, Poster campaign, Protests and Student’s Rallies in Eight States viz. Delhi , Rajastan, Bihar, West Bengal , Manipur, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu. Because of the annual examination schedule of the class 10 and 12, the duration of the campaign was extended up to March 30.
Protest in Delhi
As the part of the campaign, it Campus Front of India conducted a Students’ Rally and Protest Demonstration at Jantar Mantar on 21.3.2010 against the New Higher Education Policy of the Centre. It condemned the Central government’s move to neo-liberalize the education sector. Students from various Universities of Delhi participated the protest.
Md Aftab Alam - Delhi State President of Campus Front welcomed the gathering. Sarfaraz Ahmad - Delhi State General secretary of Campus Front presided over.
Md Aneesujjaman – National General secretary, Campus Front of India expressed in his key note address how corporate houses, politician, and communal forces join hand to destroy the public education system. He calls upon the student community, the parents and the general public to come forward, to defeat the neo-liberal design of the Centre. He unveiled the ploy of central government, which is diverting the attention of common people from real issues like commercialization of education, decreasing role of the government in free education, etc.. In the name of new education bill govt. actually try to put Indian education for unabashed sale in global market, he added.
Miss, Banojyotsna, Representative of Democratic Students Union also addressed the gathering. She said that the neo-liberal forces are shaping the education for the benefit of the upper class. All kind of oppression throughout the world are interrelated. So the like-minded people should come together to defeat these oppressive forces, she added.
Selim Jahangeer – Delhi State Vice-President and Minarul Huq from Aligar Muslim university also addressed the gathering.
“The UPA government should drop both ‘National Commission for Higher Education and Research Bill, 2010’ and ‘The Foreign Educational Institution (Regulation of Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010’ bills by withdrawing the approval immediately and not to table in the Parliament.” the Protesters demanded.
And also a memorandum was also submitted to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Office at the end of the program.
